James Francis "Jim" Rosprim, Jr.

October 18, 1937 - July 25, 2024

James “Jim” Francis Rosprim, Jr., born October 18, 1937, departed this life on July 25, 2024, at the age of 86. He was born in Houston, Texas, to James Francis Rosprim and Gertrude Altenburger Rosprim.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother David Alphonse Rosprim and daughter Michelle Frances Rosprim. He is survived by his loving wife of almost 60 years, Edda Carol Levandowski Rosprim and their children: Monica Rosprim Faulk (husband Brett), Keith Rosprim, David Rosprim and Carol Rosprim Mandola (husband John B.). Jim was also blessed with ten grandchildren: Erin Faulk Robinson (husband Austin), Kathryn, Connor and Ryan Faulk, Aidan, Nolan and Hayes Rosprim, Reed, Nicholas and Jaxon Mandola. In addition, he is survived by his brothers Gerald Rosprim (wife Carolyn), Daniel Rosprim (wife Sharon), Michael Rosprim, and sisters Anne Rosprim Jurecka (husband Lee) and Claire Rosprim Klotz as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Growing up, Jim attended Holy Name Catholic School and St. Thomas High School, where he graduated in 1955. He is a proud graduate of Texas A&M University, Class of 1959, but actually graduated in 1964. He liked to say that he packed a 4-year degree into nine years, as he would stop to work and save money, then resume his education until he ran out again. While at Texas A&M, he was in the Aggie Corps of Cadets for 2 years and served in the US Army from 1957-1960.

From 1962-1963, Jim worked for Houston Shell and Concrete where he met Edda Carol Levandowski. The two were married August 29, 1964, at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Houston. Upon the eventual completion of his bachelor’s degree in industrial technology, he accepted a sales position with Otis Elevator Company. His career took them to Dallas, TX, New York City, NY, Little Rock, AR, Kansas City MO, where Monica, Keith and David were born, and then to San Antonio, TX, where they completed their family with the birth of Baby Carol. They then spent twelve years in Shreveport, LA, where he was Branch Manager for Otis before returning to their hometown and extended family in Houston in 1989. Jim retired from Otis in 1991.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and was an usher at church for many years. After retirement, Jim volunteered at the Society of St. Vincent de Paul and then at Cypress Assistance Ministries. He and Edda were members of Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church in Houston.

Jim was a devoted son, husband, brother, father and grandfather. He never met a stranger and seemingly liked everyone. He was a self-proclaimed “jack of all trades, master of none”—mechanic, plumber, painter, general handyman and supervisor. He enjoyed spending time with his extended family and never missed a family gathering or an opportunity to lend a hand to family members or friends.

He was a Boy Scout leader, youth-sports coach and attended numerous football, baseball, softball, soccer and basketball games, piano recitals, choir and theater performances and half-time dance shows for his kids and grandkids. He will be remembered by his family for his funny sayings and silly dad-jokes, but also for all the lessons he taught them through the way he lived his life.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Thomas High School or the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. Support - St. Thomas High School (sths.org); GIVE | Archdiocese Galveston Hou (svdphouston.org
