John B. "Jack" Engle 

April 5, 1962 - July 14, 2024 

Captain John "Jack" Engle, age 62 of Jacksonville, FL passed away peacefully at home on July 14, 2024.

Jack was born, much to his chagrin, in Stillwater, OK. Although he was an Army brat and lived in many places, he always considered Florida his home.

Jack graduated from Texas A & M University, Galveston in 1985. Immediately after graduation he was accepted in the Officer Sea and Air Mariner (OSAM) program where he spent three (3) years in the Navy and transitioned into the merchant marines.

Jack sailed for over 20 years with the last 13 of those years in the T-AGOS program at Maersk Line, Limited before moving to shoreside positions with the company. In 2015, he moved to Jacksonville, FL to work with Crowley Government Services. His career came full circle working the last seven (7) months as Port Captain for the T-AGOS program and the ships he once sailed.

Jack met his wife, Joanna, while working at Maersk Line, Limited. Their story started when he came to her rescue fixing a slashed tire and brought his beloved 15-year-old dog, Sandy with him. She saw the love he had for Sandy and knew he could not be all bad. Lo and behold it was true.

Of everything he was proud of, Jack was most proud of his son, Christopher, and the man he is. He admired the qualities and traits Christopher displays and only wished he possessed more of them himself.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife Joanna, son Christopher Engle, granddaughter, Emma, father Forrest Williams (Shirley), brother Chip Engle and favorite sister-in-law, Lorraine, nephew Stephen Engle (Crystal), niece Ashley Neumann (P.J.), great niece Elliott Neumann and great nephew, Harlan Neumann. Jack is predeceased by his mother Alma Jo Williams.
