David Stiles Wyer
October 11, 1930 - July 16, 2024
David Stiles Wyer, age 93, of Canyon, Texas, and formerly of Muleshoe, Texas, died peacefully Tuesday, July 16, 2024 in Canyon, surrounded by his loved ones. He was born on October 11, 1930, in Muleshoe, Texas to Jay and Ottice Wyer. He went to school and married Dorothy Waggoner on October 15, 1949 in Muleshoe.
David graduated from Muleshoe High School in 1948. He attended Tarleton in the Fall of 1947 and transferred to West Texas University in the Spring of 1948. He returned to Muleshoe after his spring semester and went to work as an autobody mechanic for Allen Guinn. In the summer of 1967, he moved his family to Lubbock, Texas. He had been hired as a vocational instructor in autobody mechanics at Estacado High School. After the move, David began his journey in higher education. He received his bachelor’s degree in industrial education from Texas A&M University in 1975; his Master of Education from East Texas State University Commerce in 1979; and a Doctor of Education from East Texas State University Commerce in 1987. He continued to work full time during these years. David was an active and loyal member of First Methodist Church of Muleshoe. Wherever they lived, First Methodist Church of Muleshoe was their “home church”.
David and Dorothy moved to Waxahachie, TX in 1977. He worked for the Waxahachie High School as Supervisor of Vocational Programs. He worked as Principal of Turner Middle School in Waxahachie. In 1989 David and Dorothy returned to Muleshoe. He was hired as the Muleshoe High School Principal. He retired from education in 1991 and began working at his leisure doing what he loved, gunsmithing. David spent the rest of his years building guns for his friends, family, and hunters across Texas. He loved time spent working with his hands and visiting his many friends who would drop by the shop.
During his years in education, he served as president of the Texas Industrial Education Association; President of the Bailey County Cemetery; and he served in different roles at church. One of his proudest accomplishments was helping to obtain a historical marker designating the Big Square, Texas Community. David and Dorothy moved from Muleshoe to Canyon, Tx on April 23, 2024 to be near his family. He is preceded in death by his parents and one sister, J. Ann Parsley in 1977.
David is survived by his wife, Dorothy; three daughters, Brenda Evins and her husband, Derrel Evins, Kathy Taylor and her husband, Gus Taylor and Timmye Posey, and her husband, Dan Posey; his five grandchildren; Angela Roberts, Justin Taylor, Abra Polinard, Rachel Austin, and Bethany Ketron; his six great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
