Travis Clark McLane

October 24, 1937 - August 1, 2024

Travis Clark McLane passed peacefully from this life to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Thursday, August 1, 2024, in Tyler, Texas. He was born at home on a Sunday afternoon on October 24, 1937, in Gladewater, Texas to Gladys and James Franklin McLane. Burial will follow at Lakeview Memorial Gardens in Longview under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home. Visitation will be at 9:00 am before the service.

Travis grew up in east Texas and attended school in White Oak where he was affectionately nicknamed “Bigun.” He played football from 6th to 12th grade as a White Oak Roughneck and was co-captain his senior year. Travis graduated with the class of 1956 and recently hosted a gathering for a 68th year reunion. After high school he went to Texas A&M University and graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering. He was proud to be an Aggie.

While Travis was in high school he met Carolyn Gosnell on a blind date. He married her on August 15, 1958, and they had two daughters, Pam and Julie. They spent the first two years of marriage in College Station and then lived in Tyler, Cleburne, and White Oak. In 1968 Travis took a job with Mobil Oil and worked for them for 31 years. During that time he worked in the Sahara Desert (Tripoli, Libya) and the North Sea (Stavanger Norway) as well as New Orleans, Midland, and Dallas. The time he spent overseas allowed for a lot of traveling as a family creating many fun memories and making life long friends. This is when Travis began taking pictures and through the years documented all kinds of things with the camera.

Travis’s calendar was busy with Green Acres Baptist Church activities, lunches with friends, ExxonMobil retiree club, Breckenridge Village events, and of course family milestone gatherings. Summertime gatherings were usually accompanied by Travis’s homemade peach ice cream while the other seasons had a plethora of his baked goods. Travis loved people and keeping in touch with friends from all seasons of life.

Travis was preceded in death by his wife Carolyn, his parents, and his brothers Donald, James, Charles, Preston, and Sidney.
