Arthur F. Graf, Jr.
May 30, 1922 - August 16, 2024
Art Graf, Jr. was born May 30, 1922 in Santa Monica, California to Art Graf and Margaret Marie (Steenman) Graf, and was released from all earthly constraints and challenges on August 16, 2024 in Austin, Texas, at 102 years young.
He and Margaret (“Peggy”) Edna Browne of Chicago were married in the 1940’s, having two children: Helen E. Graf of Baton Rouge, Louisiana (sons Chris Weigand and wife Alexis, their children Carter, Cade, and Elise, and Nick Weigand), and Art Graf, III (sons Robert Ramey Graf and wife Paige Lonquist Graf, and Alex Graf), and Art Graf, III’s wife Cindy Lockett extending the family with daughters Lauren Youngborg and husband Errol and children Brantley, Lena, Isla, and Jude, and Lindsay Schrock and husband Elliot and son Wells.
In the late 1970’s, Art married Jean Evans Billingsley, and added step-son Pat Billingsley, and step-daughter Karen Billingsley (sons David Robitaille and his wife Amanda and daughter Audrey, and Daniel Robitaille and his sons Liam and Mason) to the family.
Also part of the family is his sister and brother-in-law Dorothy and Jack Browne, Jr., with sons Hal, Kent (Linda), and Craig, and daughter Sharon (daughter Amanda and son Austin).
After growing up in Monrovia, California, he attended Texas A&M University, graduating with a BS degree in Mechanical and Petroleum Engineering May 26, 1944. Following earning a Bachelor of Applied Science from The University of Toronto in 1947, he did further studies at the University of Oklahoma, after which he joined what became Granite Oil in San Antonio, serving as petroleum engineer, president, and CEO of it and its affiliates.
He enjoyed flying a Beech Bonanza, greenhouse gardening, amateur radio (KB5JJ), traveling, photography, and SCUBA diving (into his 90’s).
