W. Cecil Hobson

March 30, 1932 - July 22, 2024

William Cecil Hobson was born on March 30, 1932, in rural Houston County, Texas, and passed away peacefully on July 22, 2024. He was the son of George A. and Evie May Hobson, and one of five children.

Growing up in the aftermath of the Great Depression, Cecil aspired to create a better life for himself. He lived at home, worked diligently, saved money and surrounded himself with successful businessmen, laying the foundation for his future success.

Cecil graduated from Texas A&M University with a BA in Business, specializing in Building Products Marketing. Following his education, he served in the United States Army, stationed in Alaska where he was involved in CBR (Chemical, Biological and Radiological) School.

His professional career was marked by significant achievements. Cecil served as President and General Manager of Butler Building Products for many years. Later, despite numerous out-of-town job offers, he chose to remain in the Bryan/College Station area. After the owner of ACME glass retired, Cecil worked for the company in a managerial role for 17 years, retiring at the age of 76.

Beyond his professional life, Cecil was a man of diverse interests. He was an accomplished musician, a self-taught bluegrass fiddle player. He was a member of two bands: "Carter Creek Bluegrass" and "Mathis Creek Boys." Cecil also had a passion of aviation, obtaining his pilot's license.

Throughout his life, Cecil found joy in his family, his home, his garden and watching green trees grow. His love for nature and family was a constant thread in his life.

Cecil is survived by his wife of 66 years, Mary Ann; his brother, David Lee Hobson and (Carol); his son Marc Allan and (Jenny), his daughter Karen "Kay" Hobson-Wilson; and his grandchildren: James (Jed) Daniel Wilson III, William (Jamie) James Wilson and (Bella), Madeleine (Maddie) Grace Wilson, Mathias Mieres and Matthew Reinberger. He also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will cherish his memory.

William Cecil Hobson's life was a testament to hard work, perseverance, and the pursuit of passions. He will be deeply missed and loved by all who knew him.
