Rodney Eugene "Rod" Blaikie
August 26, 1944 - July 31, 2024
Rodney “Rod” Eugene Blaikie of Houston, Texas joined his loved ones in Heaven on Wednesday, July 31, 2024 at the age of 79. He was born on August 26, 1944 in Houston, Texas.
Rod graduated from South Houston High School in 1962 and went on to get his degree in Biology from Sam Houston State University in 1966. He met Gloria Lowe at SHSU and they were married August 27, 1966.
Rod joined the Air Force and was stationed in Klamath Falls, Oregon where he and Gloria welcomed their first child, Jana Kay. Shortly after her birth, he was sent overseas to Japan for a year. When he returned, he was stationed in Alamogordo, New Mexico, where their twin boys, Ryan Eugene and Brent Lee, were born.
Rod was then stationed in College Station, where he was an USAF ROTC instructor. He received his Masters of Education in 1976 from Texas A&M. His Aggie ring can be seen in any picture of Rod from that point on! That same year, the Air Force stationed Rod (and family) to Tyndall Air Force Base in Panama City, Florida. It was shortly afterwards that he chose to leave the military and join civilian life.
Rod moved his family back to College Station where he found his niche in sales working for The Eagle Newspaper. In 1980, he and his family moved to Houston where he continued his sales career with Southwestern Bell Yellow Pages until he retired and his true occupation/ passion began…he became a grandfather. Pawpaw was a name he treasured.
Rod was preceded in death by his parents, Katherine and Roger Blaikie, and his sister, Leah. He is survived by his sister, Deah Chamberlain of Brenham, his ex-wife, Gloria Blaikie of Houston, and his children, Jana Ross of Sugar Land, Ryan Blaikie and wife, Melissa, of Katy, and Brent Blaikie of Richmond. He is also survived by his adoring grandchildren, Kyler, Caitlin, Casey, Bear, Kennedy, and Avery.
Rod was a strong man of faith and we find solace in the knowing that he is with his God and out of pain.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Rod’s Life at Forest Park-Lawndale on Tuesday, August 6th. Visitation will be from 11:00 am-12:00 pm. Service will begin at 12:00 pm and Graveside will follow at 1:00 pm.
