John "Butch" Thomson III '73 September 10, 2024 3:22 PM updated: September 10, 2024 3:29 PM

John Edward "Butch" Thomson, III

October 12, 1950 - August 3, 2024

John E. Thomson, III, lovingly known as Butch to his family and friends, entered into heavenly rest on August 3, 2024, at the age of 73.

He was born October 12, 1950, to John and Helen Thomson in Lampasas, TX. Due to travel associated with his father's work, Butch's childhood was spent adventuring in Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, New Mexico, North Dakota, and even Haiti. His family ended up settling in Brookshire, TX where he attended Royal High School. Upon graduation, he studied microbiology at Texas A&M University, earning his bachelor's degree.

Throughout his life, Butch had a steady love for the outdoors with hunting and fishing. There was even a time where you could find him elbow deep in dirt out working his garden. This past March, he fulfilled one of his dreams by returning to Louisiana to fish in the same bays that he frequented with his father in younger years.

Butch is survived by his daughter: Amy Murphy and husband Joe of Conroe, TX, son: John Matthew and wife Deborah of The Woodlands, TX, sister: Lisa Ivy and husband Willy of Pattison, TX, grandchildren: Rachael Lapaglia, Kaci Thomson, Riley Murphy, Raina Murphy, Raylin Murphy and Harper Thomson, great-grandchild: Brennan Lapaglia, step-son: Travis Manning, step-grandchildren: Reese and Tanner Manning and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were both of his parents and wife, Susan.
