Roger Coleman Ferguson
November 7, 1954 - August 27, 2024
Roger Coleman Ferguson completed his journey on earth on August 27, 2024 in Houston, TX and is now home with his Lord and Savior in Heaven. Roger taught us many lessons in life but what he wanted us to remember the most was very simple: Love God and Love Your Neighbor. If we do that, we know we’ll see him again in heaven with our Lord.
Roger was a Christian man, a Texas A&M Aggie to his core (Class of 77), a "character" and a man that loved projects. Roger had a tender heart and was extremely loving. He was a devoted son, husband, father, grandfather (Poppa), brother, a bonus dad, brother-in-law, and friend to many. He loved his family fiercely and we loved him back. His grandchildren adored Poppa. He was a published author of 3 books. He spent 2 years in Afghanistan as a civilian supporting the war effort. He was courageous in his battle with cancer. Through it all he was an inspiration, maintaining his fun-loving demeanor.
Roger was born on November 7, 1954 in Jacinto City, TX to Ira and Peggy Ferguson. His beloved mom Peggy, preceded him in death. In addition to his dad, Roger is survived by his wife Cathy Ferguson, daughters Ashley Phillips, her husband Chris, and their children, Grace, Olivia, Graham and Norah; and Lyndsey Black, her husband Derek, and their son, Cooper Ardoin. His bonus daughters Melissa Hunzeker and her husband, Ryan and Brooke Bowman and her daughter, Barrett. His bonus sons Josh Penland and his wife, Natalie, and their children, Kennedy, Carson, and Dominic Ridder; Robert Penland, and his wife, Samantha, and their sons, Jaxton and Parker; and Travis Penland and his daughter, Maddison. He is also survived by his sister Sue Cash, her husband Randall, and numerous, nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.
We will have a Celebration of Roger’s Life on September 21, 2024 at 10:00 am at River Pointe Church, 21000 Southwest Freeway, Richmond, TX 77469. We invite you to join the family in wearing Roger’s favorite color, blue, at his celebration. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest donations to cancer research at MD Anderson Hospital in Roger’s memory. http://gifts.mdanderson.org/
Until we meet again, Fly Poppa Fly. We all love you.
