Marcelina Gonzales "Marci" DeLeon 

July 16, 1940 - August 7, 2024 

Marcelina "Marci" Gonzales DeLeon was born the third daughter of her parents, Sotera Oliva Gonzales and Jose Guadalupe Gonzales in Wilcox, Texas. Marci spent her childhood in Somerville, Texas where she began first grade speaking only Spanish, the language spoken in her home. Through hard work and determination, Marci graduated Salutatorian of the Somerville High School, Class of 1958. She went on to attend Blinn College, then attended Texas A&M University, earning a Bachelor of Science in 1974 and a Master of Education in 1990. Marci taught Math and coached in her hometown of Somerville for several years, before being hired by Bryan ISD, where she would retire in 2002.

In the late in 1970s, Marci committed her life fully to the Lord. She was a mentor, leader and prayer warrior for her family, students and friends. Marci founded and led the Friends Fellowship Youth Group while working at Somerville High School. She was active in Bible studies and Women's Aglow, attending numerous conferences across the country. And after retiring, Marci remained active, embarking on short-term mission trips to Belize, Costa Rica and Mexico. She also volunteered at Still Creek Ranch for children, continued her Bible studies and prayer groups, and mentored young women.

In her final years, Marci received excellent care from the staff at St. Joseph Manor and Hospice Brazos Valley.

Marci is survived by her children, Rachel Lynn DeLeon and Stephen DeLeon; her grandchildren, Nica DeLeon and partner, Walker Hart, Paloma DeLeon and Diego DeLeon; her great-grandchildren, Deegan DeLeon, Willow Hart, and Walker Hart II; as well as her five sisters, two brothers, and many nieces and nephews.

A visitation for Marcelina will be held Saturday, August 17, 2024 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Connecting Point Church, 410 Harvey Road, College Station, TX 77840. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM, There will be a reception immediately following the service.
