Alton Elwood Breedlove, Sr., 90, beloved servant of God, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, left this earth and went to his Heavenly Home Monday morning, August 12, 2024, in Fort Worth, Texas, surrounded by his family.
Al was born August 19, 1933, to Loyd Otis and Maudie Ethel (Boyd) Breedlove. He grew up in Troup, a part of the Walnut Grove community, near Whitehouse, Texas, played basketball, and graduated from high school in 1951. He went to college at Texas A&M University where he was a member of the Corps of Cadets. Al was extremely proud to be a Texas A&M Aggie, Class of 1955. He married Peggy Ann Hall on July 26, 1957, and together they had three children, Al Jr., Marshall, and Ruth Ann. They were married for almost 64 years.
Al had a deep love for his Lord and for his family. He devoted his life to Christian service focusing primarily on families and children. He worked for the juvenile home in Dallas, the Buckner Boy’s Ranch in Burnet, Texas, and finally for Buckner Children’s Home, in Dallas, Texas. Al wore many different hats for Buckner but his main role was as director of the Mother’s Aid program. The mission of this program was to keep families together.
By providing financial support, food, housing, etc. he hoped to help struggling parents get back on their feet allowing them to retain their parental rights, keeping their family intact. His Christmas program each year provided thousands of toys, lots of food and clothing, and much more to the families in his care. Many lives were impacted by his ministry and work. Al’s legacy is all about how his love for Jesus overflowed to every life he touched, through his verbal witness of grace and his endless desire to put others before himself. Along with his wife Peggy, Al volunteered in various church nurseries for 47 years. They were long-time members of Eastridge Baptist Church in Red Oak, Texas. His wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were the greatest blessings in his life.
Al was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy; his parents; his sister, Juanita Ruth; his aunt, “Mama Casey;” his cousin, Audrey; and numerous other relatives.
