Wendell Edward Edwards 

August 25, 1937 - August 11, 2024 

Wendell Edward Edwards, age 86, of Commerce, TX and later Katy, TX passed away on Sunday, August 11, 2024. Wendell was born on August 25, 1937 to Florence Helen Gassaway and William Penn Edwards in Waco, TX. Wendell graduated from West High School in West, TX in 1955 and went on to study at A&M College of Texas. After graduating with a degree in accounting, he served with the US Air Force. He then returned to Texas A&M to earn his Master’s degree in Accounting and later earned his PhD at North Texas State University.

In 1962, Wendell met Linda Yeats in Midwest City, OK through the introduction of a mutual friend. They were married in 1964 and had 2 daughters, Karen and Kathy. In 1969 the family moved to Commerce, TX.

Wendell retired as a professor emeritus from TAMU-C after teaching for 38 years. He was loved and respected by his many students for his genuine care, encouragement, and challenging them to be their absolute best. He was a pillar of the Commerce community and was respected as a man of integrity and the embodiment of Christ.

Wendell loved people and never met a stranger. He was noted for asking everyone he met what their “claim to fame” was. He enjoyed traveling and experiencing new places and cultures.

Wendell was predeceased by his parents, brother Billy Edwards, and sister Louise Hopkins. He is survived by his wife Linda; daughter Karen, her husband Kevin Raumaker, and their children Madison Van Dam, Monica Raumaker, and Michaela Raumaker; daughter Kathy, her husband Kristopher Myers, and their children Nolan Myers and Ty Myers; brother John Edwards, and many other family and friends.

Services will be held on Friday, August 16 at 11:00am at Kingsland Baptist Church in Katy, TX and Saturday, August 17 at 1:00pm at Chalk Bluff Baptist Church outside Waco, TX. Arrangements are being made through Schmidt Funeral Home-Grand Parkway in Katy, TX.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Texas A&M-Commerce Baptist Student Ministry, Texas A&M University Baptist Student Ministry, or the ministry or missions of your local church.
