In Loving Memory of Steve--
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved father, Steve, who left us on October 3rd, 2024, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his family.
Stephen "Steve" Johnson, 62, was born in 1962 in Sinton, Texas to Betty and Tommy Johnson. Steve is referred to as a good, kind and caring son by his parents. He was always there to support them. Steve grew up with his three brothers, Mike, Jeff & Chris, and often shared memories of afternoons playing football in their front lawn in Houston, Texas, where they eventually moved in 1967.
Steve was extremely hardworking and ambitious; he had big dreams for his life and wasn’t afraid to pursue them. Steve attended Texas A&M University from 1980 to 1984 where he studied Petroleum Engineering. He was a member of the Corps of Cadets where he made lifelong friends. After he graduated, he moved back to Houston, where he quickly learned the ropes of the oil and gas field and started his own business. In 1991 Steve met Sonja and went on to have 3 children. They had many adventures together. Steve was a kind, strong and supportive father who loved his family. Steve always encouraged his kids to play sports, go on adventures and follow their intuition and dreams in life. His children followed suit by going on to have many travels and pursue fulfilling jobs.
Although Steve was an avid sports fan, playing golf often and watching many football games, he also had a love for films, novels and art. When Steve wasn't watching the Aggies, he spent much of his time reading classics such as Hemingway and watching classic films from Old Hollywood. He loved a good story, whether it was in a country song, broadway musical, Saturday morning cartoon or a piece of classic literature. He had an adventurous spirit which took him traveling across the globe, from climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro in Tanzania to running with the bulls in Spain. He also enjoyed the simpler pleasures of Disneyland, Key West and the Texas hill country.
Though his battle with cancer was arduous, he faced each day with remarkable strength and grace. He continued to live his life to the fullest up until the very end. To quote one of his favorite artists Robert Earl Keen, “I’ve known a lot of old bulls in my life, and their work is never done”. He gave this life his all, to the very end.
Steve is survived by his wife, Alexandra, who brought joy, laughter and loving companionship to his later years. He is also survived by Tommy Johnson (father), Betty Johnson (mother), Jacy Zuckerbrow (daughter), Katie Johnson (daughter), Joey Johnson (son), Sonja Galliani (mother of his children), Indigo Zuckerbrow (grandson), Chris Johnson (brother), Jeff Johnson (brother) who will remember and honor him each day.
A Celebration of Life will be held on November 15th, 2024, in College Station, where family and friends are invited to celebrate Steve's life. Details to follow.
In lieu of flowers, we invite those who knew him to celebrate his life by sharing stories/pictures here, making a donation to the charity he loved, and, most importantly, spreading kindness in his honor.
Rest in peace, dad.
