Robert Charles "Bob" Potts, MD
April 28, 1939 - March 22, 2024
Bob was born in Houston, TX on April 28, 1939 to William McDaniel Potts and Eris Gustavus Potts.
Bob, a wise and beloved local doctor, grew up in College Station, TX, studied Zoology at Texas A&M University (1961) as a member of the Corps of Cadets, earned his MD at UTMB in Galveston (1965), interned at Brackenridge Hospital in Austin (1966), and completed his psychiatric residency at UTMB (1969).
Bob enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1969 and served as Chief of Psychiatry at the 249th General Hospital in Tokyo until his honorable discharge in 1971.
Now a civilian, Bob moved to Houston, where he practiced until moving back to Aggieland in 1975, co-founding Neuropsychiatry Associates. He also practiced in Paris, TX until 1996. Bob then joined MHMR (Bryan/College Station) where he practiced for 25 years until his retirement in 2020.
As a physician, Bob was patient-centric and valued continuing education, championing the latest research and techniques. Among his sayings, the two that he most embodied were "get all the education you can" and "treat everyone with the same respect".
He was an avid reader, scholar, classical music aficionado, and sports fan. He shared these loves with his children and grandchildren, who accompanied him to museums, concerts, and sporting events.
After contracting COVID-19 in November 2023, he was diagnosed with cancer. He peacefully passed on March 22, 2024, surrounded by his family and pets, only 37 days short of his 85th birthday.
Bob just celebrated his 44th wedding anniversary with Molly Killgore Potts. He leaves behind 6 children: Robert Potts Jr, Kevin Marcotte, Jessica Marcotte, Richard Potts, David Potts, and Michael Potts; 4 grandchildren: Lillian Jones, Eris Potts, Kassidy Jones, and Rich Potts; and 1 great grandchild: Shayne Jones. Bob will be terribly missed.
