James Roland Buchanan 

May 19, 1932 - September 2, 2024 

James Roland Buchanan, age 92, of Magnolia, Texas passed away on Monday, September 2, 2024. He was born on May 19, 1932 in Nacogdoches, Texas to William Simeon Buchanan and Vena Johnson Buchanan.

James graduated from Fair Park High School in Shreveport, LA, class of 1951. He went on to graduate from Texas A&M University Class of 1955, and in 1956 he joined the United States Army and served until 1961. James was a drilling fluids engineer in the oil field for over 50 years. He retired at the age of 82.

James enjoyed golf, reading, including World War II history, the Old West and mystery novels. He also loved watching Texas A&M football and boating.

Survivors include: wife, Mary Boykin Main Buchanan; son, James R. Buchanan, Jr. and wife Lauren; step-daughter, Catherine Main Thurman and husband Eric; step-son, Robert Willis Main, Jr. and wife Melanie; grandchildren, Michael Ryan Clark, Reagan Main, Zoe Main, Aquilla Buchanan, Jackson Thurman, Parker Thurman, Griffin Buchanan and Carlyn Buchanan; sister, Mary Nell Riegel and husband Allen.

James is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, William S. Buchanan, Jr. and John Lee Buchanan; sisters, Alice Jane Buchanan and Virginia Buchanan Matthews.

A graveside service for James will be held Saturday, September 7, 2024 from 2:00 PM at Oak Grove Cemetery, 200 N Lanana St, Nacogdoches, TX 75961.
