James Calhoun "Jim" Leissner 

October 12, 1936 - October 8, 2024 

James “Jim” Calhoun Leissner, age 87 of Seguin, Texas passed away on October 8, 2024. Jim was born on October 12, 1936 in Houston, Texas to Ouida Virginia (Dodson) and Martin William Leissner.

Jim graduated from New Braunfels High School in 1953. He received a Bachelor's degree in Marketing from Texas A & M University in 1957 and a Master’s Degree in Mathematics from St. Mary's University in 1966. He maintained life long friendships with his Spider D Infantry/A & M classmates. They met regularly for reunions with their wives and sometimes just with the guys.

Jim was taught how to play bridge by his cousins and aunts as a young adult. When he was in his 50's he learned to play Skat, a German card game. He traveled domestically and internationally competing in and winning Skat tournaments. He also loved gardening, cooking and most importantly spending time with his family.

Jim is preceded in death by his daughter, Laura Leissner Carlson, son, Nathan Charles Leissner, his parents, his brother, Martin Leissner, Jr. and wife Helen, and brother-in-law, Richard Bello.

Survivors include his loving wife of 66 years, Joyce Theresa Bonaventure Leissner; his daughters, Blanche Walker and husband Neal, Naomi Williams and husband Tom, and Diane Baines and husband John; grandchildren, Trez Walker, Skyler Walker; and Violet Carlson; sister, Anna Lou Brown and husband Glenn; sister-in-law, Hazel Bello; aunt, Helen Dodson Black; several nieces, nephews, other loving family members and friends.

A memorial service celebrating Jim’s life will be held on Friday, October 18, 2024 at 1 p.m. at Tres Hewell Mortuary Chapel with the Reverend Jeremy Roy officiating. Private graveside services will be held at Boeker Cemetery in Guadalupe County.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee, 38105-9959 or to the charity of your choice.
