Dale Edouard Walston of Dripping Springs, Texas, passed away peacefully in his home on October 16, 2024. He was 93 years of age.
Dale was preceded in death by his father, Aaron Cortez Walston and his mother, Willie Jo (Borden) Walston.
His survivors include his husband of nearly 50 years, Ronald Dale Hicks, his brother Robert A. Walston, his nephew Alex C. Walston and wife, Rebecca R. Walston, two grand nieces, Belle V. Walston and Penelope R. Walston.
Dale was born on December 1, 1930, in Woodsboro, Texas and graduated from Woodsboro High School in 1948. He then attended Texas A&M University earning his Bachelor of Arts degree (Mathematics) in 1952. The previous year, he was appointed as Lieutenant Colonel in the Corps of Cadets where he served as the Corps Staff Editor and Commentator. He was a member of the Singing Cadets, the Town Hall Staff, the Arts and Sciences Council, and served as President of the Cryptography Club. In his senior year he served as second in command of the military corps.
After graduating he served 2 years in the Army, working for the National Security Agency. He then attended the University of Texas at Austin earning the degree of Master of Arts (Mathematics) and the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (Mathematics) where he taught for 42 years as an Associate Professor before retiring at the age of 65 as an Associate Professor Emeritus. He served as Associate Chairman in the Department of Mathematics for many years. He was admired for his leadership and teaching ability.
He was an accomplished singer and sang for many years at University Baptist Church and The University of Texas Choral Union. He had a wide variety of interests including current affairs, music, reading, travel, and working outside in the garden. He will be deeply missed by family and friends and all who knew him professionally.
