April 29, 1946 - August 30, 2024
Marshall Wooten Alexander, Jr. passed away on August 30, 2024, in Austin, Texas. Born April 29, 1946, in San Antonio, Texas, he was the son of Marshall Wooten Alexander, Sr., and Darlene May Ripper (Lightner).
After graduating from Texas A&M University in College Station in 1969 with a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics, Alexander worked as a programmer for SP Railroads. He then embarked on a career at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, where he eventually became the director of Enterprise Application Services. His tenure there spanned from 1984 to 2008.
A longtime coach of youth football and softball, Alexander was also recognized for his donations to World Vision. He taught English as a Second Language classes, studied theology, and was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church.
One of his passions was building, painting, and gifting model cars and airplanes, often going so far as to cut the doors to make them operable. He also enjoyed drawing.
Known for his love of computers and programming, Alexander was a dedicated employee who cherished his friends and coworkers. He had a deep affection for his mother and would often visit her at her assisted living facility to take her for walks.
A genuine and kind-hearted man, Marshall inspired others with his positive example. He was quiet and enjoyed solitude.
Alexander is survived by his younger sister, Linda Yeatts, and her husband, Malcolm, as well as cousins in San Antonio and Houston. His parents, and all of his aunts and uncles, have predeceased him.
A memorial service for Marshall will be held Thursday, September 5, 2024 at 11 AM at Woodlawn Baptist Church South Austin location, with a reception to follow.
