Richard Wilkinson '75 November 1, 2024 4:47 PM updated: November 1, 2024 4:57 PM

Richard Leon Wilkinson

August 1, 1951 - October 7, 2024

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Richard Wilkinson, dedicated husband, father, and grandfather who passed away peacefully with his bride at his side at the age of 73, on October 7, 2024, in his home in Lubbock, TX. He was born August 1, 1951, to Homer and Intha (Stephens) Wilkinson, in Jasper, Texas.

Richard married the absolute love of his life, Debby Brooks, just five days after her high school graduation on June 5, 1971. He graduated with a safety and environmental engineering degree from Texas A&M University in May of 1975. He went on to work for Amoco Oil Company in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Richard's three daughters were his pride and joy, and he loved riding four wheelers with the girls through the backwoods and exploring new places with them. He adored his six grandchildren and loved taking them for walks to the playground to feed the ducks and create inventions around the house together.

Richard will always be remembered for his questionable decision to put ketchup on everything on his plate and drown his breakfast in Steen's Cane Syrup. He loved to read Reader’s Digest novels, which he could devour in a day. He was the self-proclaimed Mr. Fix-It and could be found tinkering in the garage any given Saturday.

Richard is survived by the love of his life, his wife Deborah Brooks Wilkinson of Lubbock, TX; his daughters DeAnna Altpeter of Thornton, CO (husband Mat), Holly Coy of Littleton, CO (husband Ryan), and Lori Wilkinson of Lubbock, TX; his six grandchildren Zach, Jillian, Caden, Maddyn, Brookie, and Harrison; his two sisters Linda Zube of Lubbock (husband Dale) and Beverly Holley of Jasper, TX, and many nieces and nephews.

Richard was preceded in death by parents Homer and Intha Wilkinson of Jasper, Texas and his father-in-LOVE, E.P. Junior Brooks and his mother-in-LOVE, Joan Brooks of Jasper, Texas.

A private memorial, to honor and celebrate the life of Richard Wilkinson, will be held at Combest Funeral Home, in Lubbock, October 11, 2024, at 10:00am.
