Arlin "Dwight" Goode '76 November 6, 2024 3:36 PM updated: November 6, 2024 3:41 PM

Arlin D. Dwight Goode

May 8, 1944 - September 25, 2024

Arlin Dwight Goode went to his Lord and Savior on September 25, 2024, after a long illness. Dwight was born to Archie Lavoy Goode and Eudella Lee Harrell on May 8, 1944, in Haskell, Texas.

He attended all twelve years of his public-school education in Rochester. Upon graduation, he moved to Canyon, Texas, and attended West Texas State University to pursue a Bachelor's and Master's Degree in math. Dwight met the love of his life, Millie Evelyn James, while at the University, and they were married on June 1, 1966, in the chapel on campus.

Dwight applied and was accepted as an instructor at Texas A&I University in Kingsville, Texas, in 1972. Realizing he needed a terminal degree in order to remain at Texas A&I, he obtained a leave of absence and moved his family to College Station to attend Texas A&M University. He received his PhD on August 13, 1976, and returned to Texas A&I where he focused on teaching courses for elementary and secondary teachers.

He was active in the First United Methodist Church in Kingsville where he served as Finance Chair for a number of years, attended the Fellowship Sunday School Class, and helped paint classrooms.

After a thirty-eight-year career in the Math Department, he retired in January of 2009.

Dwight enjoyed working with Little League baseball and served on several teams as an assistant coach. He also served as the President of the Kingsville Little League for a short time.

Dwight and his wife moved to Kerrville in August of 2009, and he became active in the First United Methodist Church where he joined United Methodist Men, served as an usher and greeter, delivered homebound communion, served on the Disaster Relief Team, and attended Rio Texas Annual Conference as a UMM delegate. Dwight began each morning with prayer and reading the Upper Room.

Dwight is survived by his wife Millie, son Mark Goode (Laura), daughter Lisa Griffiths (Jason), grandchildren Kayla Goode, Sara Goode, Amber Griffiths, Jenna Griffiths, and James Griffiths, and brother Randy Goode (Margie).

Celebration of life services will be held at 11 AM, Friday, October 4, 2024 at Kerrville First United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Kerrville First United Methodist Church, Light on the Hill, or the charity of your choice.
