Douglas Steil Meaden
September 17, 1953 - August 27, 2024
Douglas Steil Meaden III joined his Lord and Savior on August 27, 2024, following a journey with Parkinson’s Disease.
Doug was born the middle son to Douglas Jr. and Margaret (Peg) Meaden on September 17, 1953, in New Orleans, Louisiana. After several relocations during childhood, the Shell Oil Co. family settled in Houston, Texas in 1964 where Doug diligently began training at the Dad’s Club. Doug attended Memorial High School where he excelled in swimming. He was part of Memorial’s state championship swim team for four consecutive years. Doug received a swimming scholarship to attend Texas A&M University where he established Southwest Conference records and received recognition as a member of the Texas A&M Lettermen’s Association. After graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Fisheries and Wildlife, Doug joined the Peace Corps and served four years in Zaire, Africa working with the people to build fishponds.
Upon his return to the U.S., Doug began his 36-year career in the oil and gas industry which included work for Houston Domestic/Penford/Texas Pup and Lone Star Heat Treating. In February 1983, Doug met Beverly Haase, they married April 5, 1986, and welcomed their daughter, Lydia three years later. While Doug was a dedicated hardworking employee, he was most of all a loving and devoted son, husband, father, brother, a friend to many, and a faithful servant to his Lord. His desire to serve others brought him to participate in the Car Care Ministry and ushering at Trinity Lutheran Church for many years. As a member of the Seabrook Sailing Club from 1981 to 2022 Doug enjoyed sailing and being on the Piers and Harbors Committee working on repairs after each storm came through Texas.
Doug is preceded in death by his parents, Douglas Steil Meaden, Jr and Margaret Wilson Meaden. He is survived by his wife of 38 years Beverly Haase Meaden, his daughter Lydia Meaden-Hopeck, son-in-law Matthew Hopeck, granddaughter Josephine Elise Hopeck, grandson Luke Steil Hopeck, his brother Peter (Sharon) Meaden and family, and brother David (Wendy) Meaden and family.
A humble and special man is now at peace with his maker. No words can completely describe the loving devotions Doug felt for family, friends, and many strangers he helped along the way.
We thank the residents and staff at the Carriage Inn Conroe for their love and kindness to Doug. Also, Hospice365 and Westgate Sr. Homes of The Woodlands for caring for Doug as this life was coming to a close.
