Joel Haywood Quick 

May 10, 1948 - October 6, 2023 

Joel Haywood Quick (age 75) passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on October 6, 2023 in Canton, GA from complications of a serious brain injury. He was born on May 10, 1948 in San Angelo, TX to William MacDonald Quick and May Margaret Tupper.

Joel graduated from Marfa High School in 1966, and attended the University of Texas El Paso on full scholarship. After joining the Air Force in 1970 he earned a 2-year industrial engineering degree at New Mexico State University. He then attended officer training school and finished his service in 1976. After leaving the Air Force and moving to Alpine, TX, Joel was hired by Big Bend Telephone Co. and they sent him to Texas A&M University to obtain his Electrical Engineering degree.

Joel loved music, especially playing the piano. He was athletic and played many sports, but particularly enjoyed tennis, basketball and golf. He enjoyed camping, fishing (still hoping for that catch) and going to the beach. He was a hard worker and was generous in helping others. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and enjoyed serving as an ordinance worker in the Atlanta Temple.

He is preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, Murphy Quick.

He is survived by his wife, Desrine Quick with whom came Kayla Dejonel Quick and stepchildren, Kamarla, Naeem, and Naseem. He also had children from previous marriages: Jeff (Lisa) Quick, Alison (Peter) Bishop, Josh (Nissa) Quick, Stephanie (Christiam) Aedo, Katie (Jared) Tuck, Ben (Beth) Quick, Sarah (Nathan) Whitehurst, Sam (Warren Robinson) Quick, Jonathan (Leisha) Quick, Hannah (Josh) Ciarelli, and May Michelle Quick. He also has 43 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren. He is survived by his brother, Marion Quick and sister, Maggie Hearn.

Funeral services will be held on Friday October 13, 2023 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, located at 5055 Holt Road, Acworth, GA. The services will start at 12 noon. The burial will follow at the Georgia National Cemetery.
