Madeline "Maddy" Schaar '20 November 16, 2024 11:24 AM updated: November 16, 2024 11:30 AM

Madeline Elisabeth "Maddy" Schaar

March 1, 1997 - November 1, 2024

Madeline “Maddy” Elisabeth Schaar, age 27, passed away on Friday, November 1, 2024. Maddy was born on March 1, 1997, in Victoria, Texas, to Robert “Bobby” Wayne Schaar and Margaret “Maggie” Mary Keefe Schaar. Madeline lived with a boundless spirit, radiating joy, spunk, and compassion in everything she did. She was tough, independent, and astoundingly bright - a wildflower at heart, painting magic wherever she went. Whether traveling across the state for family gatherings, being there for friends, or caring for animals, Maddy brought a unique light to each moment. She lived wholeheartedly and gave generously, touching the lives of every single person she met. Maddy never apologized for being exactly who she was: vibrant, free, and full of life.

A faithful caretaker, Maddy had a special connection with animals. Summers spent on the ranch with Uncle Joe and her work at Main Street Animal Hospital nurtured her love for all creatures, especially horses. She poured her heart into her work from College Station, where she graduated from Texas A&M in 2021 and built a cherished bond with Dr. Jody Norris in Caldwell, Texas. From there, her passion for horses led her to Lexington, Kentucky, where she cared for Kentucky Derby horses at Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital. Eventually, she returned to College Station, bringing her spirit, compassion, and energetic drive to South 40 Veterinary Hospital, where she shared daily adventures with Dr. Ryan Lee as they treated horses across the Brazos Valley.

Maddy’s spirit lives on in the memories of her contagious laughter, her wild heart, and the countless lives she brightened. Maddy dances free above her family whom she loved dearly: parents Maggie and Bobby Schaar; sister Katherine Claire Schaar; brother Thomas Christian Schaar; grandparents Charles and Patty Jean Schaar; grandmother Mary Jo Smith; and step-grandmother Sharon Keefe; Aunts & Uncles Donna (Scott) Kuester, Debbie (Ronnie) Gregory, Joe (Judy) Keefe, Sharon (Rick) Martinez, and John (Genevieve) Keefe; cousins Tyneil (Northcott), Scotty (Kayla), Clay (Jenny), Camille (Jeremy), Melissa (Trey), Ashley, Justin (Mary), Jenna (Jacob), Rebekah (Michael), Hannah, David (Lori), and Stephen (Kelli). Godchild Lyra, her constant canine companion Guess, and her horse General.

Maddy was preceded in death by her grandfather, Victor Keefe, and step-grandfather, Lemuel Smith.

Visitation will be held on Friday, November 8, 2024, from 5-7 p.m., followed by the recitation of the Rosary at 7 p.m., all at Rosewood Funeral Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, November 9, 2024, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, with interment immediately following.
