Millard Lucien "Lu" Tierce, III, DVM

December 5, 1942 - September 16, 2024

Dr. Millard Lucien Tierce III DVM, 81, passed away on September 16, 2024.

Funeral Service: 2:30 p.m. Friday, October 4, 2024, in Greenwood's Live Oak Chapel at 3100 White Settlement Rd., Fort Worth, Texas 76107, with a visitation one hour prior to service. Service will conclude with a reception from 3:30 - 5:30 p.m. in Greenwood's Live Oak Room. There will be a private family burial.

Millard Lucien "Lu" Tierce, III, DVM was born on December 5, 1942 in Mineral Wells, Texas to parents, Col. Millard Lucien Tierce, Jr., DVM and Evelyn Ruth Tierce. As army brats, he and his three sisters lived many places. When he was a little boy, Lu lived in Oaxaca and developed a love for Mexico that lasted his entire lifetime. As a high school student in Okinawa Japan and then in Clarksville, Tennessee, he was a star running back. His senior football coach even asked him to intentionally fail English so he could play for another year, but his lifelong dream to become a veterinarian was calling him back to the Lone Star State.

Lu began college at Texas A&M University in 1961 and graduated vet school in 1966. He completed undergraduate and vet school in just 5 years, all while working at the Sinclair gas station he co-owned in College Station. In 1962, Lu met fellow army brat and the love of his life, Lynda, and they married in 1964. She worked beside him in his practice for most of their 60 year marriage. They had three children: Becky, Elizabeth and Buddy.

Lu lived and breathed veterinary medicine. In his 48 years of practicing at the Camp Bowie Animal Clinic in Ft. Worth, his passion was to help people by caring for their pets. Spending 7 days a week in the clinic for his entire career, his clients always knew he would be there when they needed him. Lu was a brilliant, intense, tenacious and dedicated man and he proudly mentored many young people who went on to become veterinarians, too!

In the rare moments away from work, the majority of his time was spent in continuing education. He also enjoyed fine wines and food, snow skiing, beekeeping, spending time at the family farm, watching his kids and grandkids play sports, attending Aggie Muster and (of course) he loved watching the Texas Aggies play football! Gig'em Aggies!!!

The family would like to express their gratitude for the loving care Lu received from Colonial Gardens Memory Care and Holy Savior Hospice. They made his last 4 months bearable. We are requesting that in lieu of flowers you make a contribution to Alzheimer's Foundation of America or All Saints' Episcopal Church (4936 Dexter Ave, 76107) who have guided us through this difficult time.

Lu is preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Lynda and Mary; and his daughter, Elizabeth.

He is survived by his wife, Lynda; daughter, Becky and her son, Blaine; son, Buddy and daughter-in-law, Kelly and their children, Mattye and Luke; and sister Robin.

The pallbearers are Dr. M.L. "Buddy" Tierce IV, M.L. "Luke" Tierce V, Blaine Lovett, and Dr. Terrell Rourk.
