James A. "Jim" Lewis
September 6, 1947 - November 3, 2023
James “Jim” A. Lewis, 76, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, passed away on Friday, November 3, 2023.
Born on September 6, 1947, in Sinton, TX, he was the son of the late Maxine Lewis (Pogue) and Albert Lewis.
Jim is preceded in death by Albert Lewis, father, Maxine Lewis, mother, and Don Lewis, brother.
Jim is survived by Kathy Lewis (Spouse), Allison (Daughter) & Chris Newbury, Steven (Son) & Arielle Lewis, Grandchildren Cooper & Amelia Lewis, Kitty Lewis (Sister), and Mary Lasater (Sister).
Jim cannot be summed up in a few paragraphs. He was larger than life and encouraged everyone he encountered to aim beyond their horizons and push the boundaries of their understandings. He was dedicated to anyone and everything he encountered and encouraged them to excel. After graduating from Texas A&M University with a degree in Chemical Engineering, he went to work for Eastman Chemical Company. He honed his craft and used his driven, focused, and creative traits to help everyone he touched. He was inventive and a visionary in his field. It was never whether or not could a problem be solved, it was simply how long would it take to figure it out. He applied himself both professionally and personally as evident in his family, kids, and grandkids. He was forever proud of each and everyone’s accomplishments, but he always somehow found a way to show us we could improve and find that next level in ourselves. To his Grandchildren, who he adored, he was called “Dat.” He always had a funny face for them to make them laugh and arms to feel safe. As a husband and a father he had one goal – to provide. He provided in so many ways. To name only a few: he always showed up, his hugs comforted when nothing else helped, he became an expert on any topic where his help was requested, and most of all anyone who knew him one hundred percent knew his love.
Every February for the last 25 years he would be in the Rocky Mountains skiing on every double black diamond with his best buddies, bragging about his new top speed down the slope. On and off the slopes, he never said no to a challenge.
When he wasn’t chasing his work passions and had time to himself, you could find him on the water in his boat basking in the awe of the beauty of God’s creation. The only greater love of his besides his family and God’s creation was knowing that one day he would forever be in the presence of God. His greatest desires in this world were selfishly selfless. He only wanted the peace of mind knowing that his loved ones were doing their part to spend eternity with God in Heaven with him. Now that his greatest love has come to fruition, it is our responsibility as his loved ones and friends to faithfully carry out the truth of eternity. Jim may seem distant right now and he will be painfully missed, but in the blink of any eye that distance will become nil, the pain will fade, and his arms will embrace us again.
Jim always referred to words by Mark Twain. “I’ve worried about many things in this life, very few which have come true”. He would want us all to set aside the worries of this life and focus on the positive reassurance that we will see him again.
