Alfred Arnold "Al" Piper, Jr.
February 19, 1939 - November 15, 2024
Alfred “Al” Arnold Piper, Jr. passed away peacefully on November 15, 2024 at the age of 85. He was born February 19, 1939, in San Antonio, Texas, to Alfred Arnold Piper, Sr. and Dorothy DeCosta Piper. As an only child, he was doted on by his mother, father, Uncle George and Aunt Van. He enjoyed countless fishing and hunting trips with his family. He learned tremendous work ethic, honesty, humility and kindness which served him well throughout his lifetime.
After high school, he graduated from Texas A&M University in 1961 (Whoop!) with a business degree. He began his career in insurance, as an adjuster and later became a sales representative, serving the south Texas region. He was also a marketing representative in banking, and held a real estate broker’s license. During his insurance career, he met and later married his wife of 51 years, Sylvia Ann Germany. They lovingly raised their three children (Shane Thomas Piper), (Shelli Ree McPherson), and (John Paul Piper) in San Antonio, Texas. He worked in earnest to provide a beautiful life and legacy for his family.
Al enjoyed spending time with friends, shooting pool, golfing, playing poker and taking long country drives. His favorite pastime was floating on an innertube in the cool, clear waters of the Seco. He spent his best years on his ranch side by side with Sylvia, clearing cedar and working the land. He worked hard and played hard. Everyone who knew him loved him for his quick wit, humor, and his ability to tell a story.
He is preceded in death by his parents, uncle and aunt. Survivors include his devoted and unwavering wife, Sylvia G. Piper; son, Shane Piper and wife JJ; daughter, Shelli McPherson and husband Brent; son, John Piper and wife Jennifer; grandchildren Morris Keith Pilkington and husband Parker, Lauren Paige Piper, Brooke Ashley Piper, Emma Rose McPherson, William Brent McPherson, Avery Makenna Smith, Kylee Alexis Smith, and Chelsie Ann Piper.
From the bottom of our hearts, the family would like to thank the staff and caregivers at Seasons Memory Care and All Seasons Hospice for the loving care and guidance during this difficult year. We are so grateful. The family will gather in a private celebration of Al’s life. Memorial contributions may be made directly to the Alzheimer’s Association. https://act.alz.org/site/SPageServer?pagename=digital_wallet_donations&df_id=39209&cybba=t rue
