Bobby Greenwood '59 December 3, 2024 1:02 PM updated: December 3, 2024 1:19 PM

Bobby Marcum Greenwood

August 30, 1938 - October 29, 2024

Bobby Marcum Greenwood, after almost nine years living with the effects of a debilitating stroke, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 29, 2024. He was born in Roscoe, Texas on August 30, 1938, to Max H. Greenwood and Billie Williford Greenwood, both schoolteachers. Bobby attended Donna High School in Donna, TX, and earned a BS (Geophysics) and an MS (Geology) from Texas A&M University, while also participating in the Aggie Corps of Cadets (Squadron 1).

On May 5, 1959, he went on a blind date that was the beginning of a life-long adventure with Judith Lesesne Gayle, whom he married on September 3, 1960. Bobby and Judy were married for 58 years (until Judy's passing April 26, 2019). They had four children: Glenda, Tom, Lisa, and David. Together they lived in Austin, College Station, Corpus Christi, Houston, Mozambique, Rome, Houston again, and finally Dallas for 47 years. Every place they lived, they formed deep friendships that remain to this day.

Bobby was a kind man with a generous heart; quiet, except when he had something to say. He was a passionate family man, Aggie, oil man, and fisherman/hunter. Bobby coached his kids' baseball teams (and even coached the neighbor's son's team one year), reflecting his deep love of family and baseball, attended countless activities of his children and grandchildren(including baseball, soccer, basketball and football games, dance recitals, art shows, band and theater performances), and took time to play and be with them.

Bobby was devoted to Judy. In addition to being active in the United Methodist church, he was also a lifelong Aggie fan and supporter. Bobby was also an oil man through and through, from roughnecking one college summer, to working with Gulf Oil, multiple independents, and finally his own consulting firm – exploring for oil and gas in Texas, the US, and around the world. He loved the oil business and was highly regarded as both technically expert and honest. Bobby was active in SIPES (serving a Board term and a term as Treasurer), AAPG, and the Dallas Geophysical Society (serving a term as President). Whenever he could, Bobby fished and hunted, two great passions that brought him happiness his whole life, particularly when sharing them with family or friends. He and Judy traveled to over twenty countries, relishing the art, the history, and the culture of each new place. Those trips were made sweeter when shared with dear friends.

Bobby is survived by children, Glenda Kay Greenwood Copeland and Richard Glynn Copeland of Plano, Thomas Rodman Greenwood and Shannon Michelle Hamrick of Dallas, Lisa Gayle Greenwood and Joseph Wilkes Park of Dallas, and David Sutherland Greenwood and Blair Hendrickson Greenwood of Little Rock; grandchildren Elyza Paige Copeland, Paul Frederick Copeland, Isaac Alexander Hamrick Greenwood, Andrew Joseph Park, Daniel Benjamin Park and Erin Green, Elizabeth Gayle Wolcott, Joshua Michael Park and Peyton Davis (and baby Paisley), Grace Park and Sam (and baby Lily), Caroline Marie Wolcott, Gabrielle Langston Greenwood, and Sophie Gayle Greenwood; sister-in-law, Glenda Gayle Nicholson and John Douglas Nicholson, Jr.; brother-in-law George Shelton Gayle, III, and Karen Jane Hartnett; nieces and nephews Angela Nicholson Igo, Natalie Nicholson Clark, John Douglas Nicholson, III, George Shelton Gayle, IV, and Ashley Gayle Williamson and their families; son-in-law Matthew James Wolcott, extended family and many dear friends who are chosen family.

A celebration of his life will be held on December 1, 2024, at 2:00 pm at Arapaho United Methodist Church with reception following. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Arapaho United Methodist Church, 1400 W. Arapaho Road, Richardson, TX 75080, www.arapahoumc.org
