Donald Wayne "Don" Wells 

April 19, 1951 - October 13, 2024 

Donald “Don” Wayne Wells of Jacksonville, FL passed away on Sunday, October 13, 2024. Don was born on April 19, 1951 in Lexington, KY to Donald B Wells and Martha Dailey Wells of Richmond, KY. He was preceded in death by his father, Donald B Wells, and his father and mother-in-law, Harold and Beatrice Pfeifer.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Carol Pfeifer Wells, his sister, Lisa Wells McFarlen (Marvin) of Georgetown, KY, and his brother, Steven Alan Wells (Tammy) of Indian Harbor Beach, FL. He is also survived by his niece, Misty Jensen (Scott), nephews Anthony Poole, Andrew Johnston (Megan) and many beloved aunts, uncles, cousins and close friends.

Don was a 1972 graduate of Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond, KY with a Bachelor of Arts in History and Economics. While at EKU, Don was a member of the Kappa Alpha Fraternity. He received his Masters of Science in Accounting from the University of Kentucky in Lexington, KY in 1976 and became a licensed Certified Public Accountant. In 1993, Don received his Doctor of Philosophy in Accounting from Texas A & M University in College Station, TX.

Don enjoyed a long and distinguished career as a professor at several Universities. Most notably, he was an Associate Professor at West Texas State University in Canyon, TX where he received the “Favorite Business Professor” award. He also held the positions of Associate Professor of Accounting, Accounting Department Chair and Associate Dean at the University of St. Thomas in Houston, TX and and completed his career at the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond, OK. Don participated in the writing of many published accounting related articles and books.

Don loved to read and found the most enjoyment in the company of his three German Shepherds - Riesling, Tango and Prissy.

Graveside services will be held at 1:30 PM Wednesday, October 23, 2024 at the Richmond Cemetery (Section Y), Richmond, KY.

Visitation for Don will be held from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, at Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home, 328 West Main St., Richmond, KY.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to All Souls Episcopal Church in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma or to the charity of your choice.
