Cynthia Marshall Kennedy, age 71, of Devine, Texas, born on 30 November 1951, in Tallahassee, Florida, passed away at 10:45 pm on Wednesday, 4 October 2023, at St. Luke's Baptist Hospital in San Antonio, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Thomas Donald Marshall, who passed away at age 84 on 31 May 2010, and Dr. Carolyn Emmett Marshall, PhD who passed away at age 91 on 21 April 2021, both of San Antonio.

In her early adulthood, Cynthia moved to Worland, Wyoming, where she raised her son and pursued college courses through the University of Wyoming. In 1984, Cynthia moved to San Antonio, where she continued to pursue college courses in education at the University of Texas at San Antonio.

Cynthia moved to the Natalia, Texas, area in 1986 after accepting employment with the Natalia Independent School District, teaching junior high students in reading and language arts, and specializing in teaching English as a Second Language. While teaching in Natalia I.S.D. Cynthia continued her education through Texas A&M University, and in 2001 received a Doctor of Philosophy from that university. In 1990, Cynthia moved to Devine, Texas.

In 1997, Cynthia accepted a teaching position as a language arts instructor for junior high students at East Central I.S.D., again specializing in the techniques of English as a Second Language. Cynthia retired from public school teaching in 2013. Although retired from public school teaching, Cynthia continued to teach undergraduate and graduate education courses online for the University of Phoenix until her passing, additional employment which she had undertaken in 2002.

Cynthia's passion was genealogy, and she received a certificate in Genealogical Research from Boston University, Center for Professional Education, in 2016. She joined the San Antonio Genealogical and Historical Society in 2013, where she did volunteer work and made many friends. She continued working for the Society until the time of her passing, and did genealogical research for numbers of clients from 2013 onward.

Cynthia is survived by her son, Joseph Emmett Kennedy of San Antonio; brother, Shawn Rowley Marshall of San Antonio, Texas; aunt, Mary Jo Wolff of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; her devoted friend of 37 years, Charles Brussells of La Coste, Texas; and many of her loving friends.

Cynthia was incredibly kind, hardworking, generous, and would always help if she could. Her tradition of hard work, loving kindness and patience will indeed be remembered.

Services will be held at Porter Loring Mortuary, 1101 McCullough Ave., on Wednesday, November 1, 2023, at 11:00 am. Memorial donations may be made to the United Way in lieu of flowers.
