Manuel Escontrias, Sr.
January 14, 1945 - October 2, 2024
Our loving Father, Manuel Escontrias, Sr. went to his final resting place on October 2nd, 2024 surrounded by his family in San Antonio, TX. He was born in Eagle Pass, Texas to Fransisco Lopez Escontrias and Consuelo Villarreal Escontrias.
He is survived by his daughter Sylvia Anne Escontrias Gray and son Manuel Escontrias, Jr. (Manny), son in law, Lawrence Gray (Chip) and daughter in law Silvia Escontrias. Grand children: Ashly Bosworth, Peyton Escontrias, Taylor Almendarez. Lorenzo Almendarez. Great Grand Children: Jaxon Aiden Bosworth, Senna Kate Davis.
His sister Diana Escontrias Calderon with brothers, Rogelio, Raul, Fransisco, Gerardo, Rolando and Fernando Escontrias. Other survivors Maria del Regugia Fernamdez, and many nieces and nephews, family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his Wife of 55 years Mary Garza Escontrias, Great Grandson Christian Escamilla. His parents Fransisco Escontrias and Consuelo Escontrias.
Manuel Escontrias Graduated at the top of his Class from Texas A&M University in 1968 with a Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering. He was courted and recruited by ExxonMobil (previously known As Humble Oil/ Mobay) as the first Hispanic Engineer. He also was a lifetime member of St. Johns Catholic Church in Baytown where he also served in many ways, on the finance committee, Lecture, Usher, Eucharistic Minister, just to name a few.
He humbly served his community in many ways, Coach Baytown West Little League, Boy Scout Master. He worked and served to make Baytown the best it could be and grow for the future. He is the only person to serve and hold these 3 elected offices where he served the community humbly with abundant Integrity, commitment and Servitude, Baytown City Council GCCISD School Board & Lee College Board of Regents.
He sat on many Boards: Exxon Baytown Credit Union, Baytown, Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, United Way, TAMACC, SETH just to name a few. He believed strongly in Education, and he loved to learn. He held an MBA from Pepperdine University in Business. He also was a Professor at Lee College with the Continuing Education Dept.
He Will Be Sadly missed, and his legacy shall live on forever.
