Joseph C. D'Abadie, 86, died Thursday, May 25, 2006.
Memorial service will be held in Great Hills Baptist Church-Great Hall, 10500 Jollyville Road in Austin, Texas. Friends and family are invited to a fellowship after the service at the church.
A memorial service will be held in Levingston's Funeral Home, 5601 39th Street, Groves, Texas. Friends and family are invited to a "come and go or come and stay" meeting before the service from noon to 3 p.m. at A Church of Jesus, 601 Victor Dr., Port Neches, Texas. Services are under the direction of Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 N. Lamar Blvd., Austin, Texas.
Jay was born in Baton Rouge, La., and raised in and around Baton Rouge, New Orleans and Port Arthur, Texas. He worked for Gulf Oil Refining Co. for 43 years as an electrician and an electrical engineer. His employment was interrupted by his volunteer service in the Texas National Guard's 36th Infantry Division 111th Engineers during World War II.
Loving known as "Jay," he lived in Austin, Texas since 1992. He loved to paint, and watercolor was his favorite medium. He gave many friends and family painting with Bible verses as words of encouragement. He has been a member of Great Hills Baptist Church since moving to Austin.
Jay is survived by his wife, Donna; and his sister, Phyllis Murdock, of Zwolle, La. He is also survived by his children, Cherie Johnson and husband Jerry, Robert D'Abadie, Elizabeth Bigham and husband Jim, Justin D'Abadie and wife Karen; grandchildren, Bret Johnson, Ben Johnson, Jason Johnson, Denise Babineaux, Danielle Good, Ann Marie Allen, John Bigham, Katherine D'Abadie, Kristine De La Cruz, Kimberly D'Abadie, Jennifer D'Abadie, Zachary Henson, Brian Henson, Felix Henson and Robert Henson; and 18 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife of 50 years, Anna Dora.
