James Michael Stewart
April 19, 1935 - July 30, 2023
James Michael Stewart was born in Conroe, Texas to Ruth and Floyd Stewart on April 19, 1935. He was a fourth generation Texan and an 88-year resident of Conroe and died on July 30, 2023.
James graduated from Conroe High in 1953 after which he attended Texas A & M University where he was a member of the Corps of Cadets and a commanding officer of “C” Field Artillery. He graduated with a B.A. in accounting in 1957, then served in the Army as an officer in the Field Artillery.
James acquired a C.P.A. license and worked in Beaumont, Texas for the IRS. In the early 1960’s, he went to work for Moore Supply Co. in Conroe, where he remained until his retirement more than forty years later.
James was a Lion with more than fifty years of perfect attendance at the Conroe Lions Club. He served in many positions including as the District Governor and was inducted into the District Hall of Fame in 2006. He was a member of First Baptist Church and the Encourager Sunday School Class. James loved Texas A&M, the Lions, farming, hunting, traveling, God, and his friends and family (not in that order).
He was preceded in death by his wife, Faye, and son, Michael. He is survived by his wife, Darlene Stephens; daughters, Shelley Harwell (Mark) and Amanda Stewart (Deral Faltesek) and nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Through his marriage to Darlene Stephens, he was also blessed with many step children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He has been laid to rest in Conroe Memorial Park Cemetery with military honors. A Celebration of Life service will be held at First Baptist Church, Conroe, on Thursday, August 31, 2023, at 11:00 a.m., Sr. Pastor Jeff Berger presiding. A reception will follow in Herrington Hall. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be given to either Texas Lions Camp, P.O.
