Lynda Neel, 80-year-old Woodward, OK resident passed away Saturday, May 27, 2023. The memorial service will be held at 11:00AM at the St. Luke United Methodist Church in San Angelo, on Saturday, September 2, 2023, under the direction of Johnson’s Funeral Home.
Lynda Dianna (Rosson) Neel was born September 6, 1942 in Ganado, TX to Robert Johnnie “RJ” and Dorothy Mack (Christ) Rosson. She grew up in Snyder, TX and graduated from Snyder High School. She then attended McMurray University and later Angelo State University where she received a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education. At Angelo State, she was among the first graduating class of women from that university. Later, she graduated with a Master’s Degree in Education from Texas A&M University.
She was united into marriage on February 14, 1961 to David Lee Neel. They made their first home in Pep, Texas. They later moved to Water Valley and finally to San Angelo. Lynda worked as an elementary Kindergarten Teacher at Bradford Elementary in San Angelo for 30 years.
Lynda enjoyed sewing, traveling, square dancing, and going to her summer home in Ruidoso, NM. She also enjoyed reading, baking pies and her special cookies, and helping anyone in need she could. Spending time with her family and grandchildren brought her the most joy.
Lynda belonged to many civic organizations and was a long-time member of St. Luke United Methodist Church. She also was a career long member of Texas State Teacher’s Association, as well as the National Education Association.
Lynda is survived by one son, Lee Neel and wife Brenda of San Angelo, Wendy (Neel) Oates and husband Mark of Woodward, OK: four brothers, Robert Rosson and wife Becky, John Rosson and wife Delores, Jim Rosson, and Roy Rosson and his wife Susan: two sisters, Patsy Scrabat and Dotsy Wright and her husband Bill: five grandchildren, Chad Robert Oates and wife Lindsey of Harrisburg, SD, Garrett Reed Oates, and his wife Kaylee of Woodward, OK, Brenlee Robert Neel of Pecos, Bradley Finus Neel of Big Lake, and Breelee Sue Neel of Johnson City: four great grandchildren Carter Jenness, Parker, Gracelynn, and Magnolia Sue Oates.
She was preceded in death by her husband and best friend of 60 years, David Neel, her parents RJ and Dorothy Rosson, sister-in-law Melissa (Weaver) Rosson, and brother-in-law, Nicholas Scrabat.
Lynda was a true blessing to all who knew her. She was so kind and generous and was known as the family’s “Mother Hen” since she was the oldest of 7 children. A special thanks to Providence Place and Traditions Hospice.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Providence Place or the First Christian Church, both of which are in Woodward, OK.
