Judith E. "Ellen" (Nelson) Miller
January 15, 1946 - July 24, 2023
Ellen Miller, beloved wife, amazing sister and loving mother and grandmother passed away peacefully July 24, 2023 at St. David's hospital in Austin, Texas.
Ellen was born to Dorothy and Captain Jack Nelson (USA), on January 15, 1946 in Gilmer, Texas. One of four children, Ellen spent her early years in Conroe, Texas, where she enjoyed many outdoor adventures with her younger brother, Danny exploring the piney woods of east Texas.
Ellen attended Baylor University in Waco, Texas where she met her future husband, the Reverend Dr. Michael N. Miller. Ellen and Mike were married in Shreveport, Louisiana on October 2, 1965.
In 1967 Ellen and Mike moved to Austin, Texas where their first child, Sarah, was born in 1968 at St. David's hospital. Shortly thereafter they moved to Alpine, Texas where their son Nelson was born in 1972. After Alpine, and nine years in Odessa, Texas the family then moved to College Station, Texas for fourteen years before settling down in Wimberley, Texas.
An avid reader and life-long learner, Ellen returned to college and graduated from Texas A&M University in 1991, with a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. Ellen was active in the Wimberley community, volunteering for hospice and the local nursing home, and making new friends throughout her twenty-nine years living in the hill country. Ellen was as an avid gardener for most of her 77 years, and she loved to visit and spend time with her three grandchildren.
Ellen is preceded in death by her brothers David and PFC Daniel Nelson (USMC), and her parents. Ellen is survived by her husband, Mike Miller, her daughter Sarah (Miller) and Dulaney Barclay, her son Nelson Miller and his wife Erika, her sister Rebecca (Nelson) and Scott Bauer, and three grandchildren Daniel and Lydia Barclay, and Victoria Miller.
A memorial service to celebrate Ellen's life will be held on Saturday, August 5th, 2023 at 11 a.m., at the Memorial Presbyterian Church in San Marcos, Texas.
