Ben Thomas Harris, Jr. 

January 23, 1935 - August 3, 2023 

Ben Thomas Harris, Jr., age 88 of Manvel, Texas, passed away Thursday, August 3, 2023. Ben was born January 23, 1935, in Galveston, Texas, and was a lifelong member of the Manvel community.

Ben enjoyed model railroading, train stamp collecting, and was a ham radio operator. He was an Eagle Scout and previous Scout Master of Troop 483. He attended the 1950 National Boy Scout Jamboree as a young Scout and as an adult led several crews to Philmont Scout Ranch, Charles L. Sommers Wilderness Canoe Base and was on staff for the 1973 National Boy Scout Jamboree. He took several Boy Scouts crews to earn their 50-mile canoe badge down the Colorado River.

He earned his Bachelor and Master’s Degree from Texas A&M University and was a school teacher. Ben is preceded in death by his parents Ben and Alice Harris, sisters Evelyn Ross and Dorothy Greer.

Ben is survived by his wife Elizabeth Harris; daughter Phyllis Manson and husband Dennis; sons Ben Edward Harris and wife Mary, David Wayne Harris and wife Rachel, and Thomas Ray Harris and wife Jamie; sister Helen Evans; grandchildren, Bill, Sara, Tim, Katie, Ben, Jacob, Shannon and Ray, as well as 14 great-grandchildren.

A visitation will be Tuesday, August 8, 2023, at Scott Funeral Home from 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM. Following the visitation, a funeral service will begin at 2:00 PM. Interment to take place at Confederate Cemetery after services. Reception to follow at First Christian Church - Alvin.
