James Francis Vickery

James Francis Vickery, 91, passed away on December 31, 2024, in Fort Worth, Texas. Born on April 24, 1933, Jim was a spirited individual renowned for his storytelling, critical thinking, and vibrant social presence. Known affectionately as the "Mayor" or "King" among his circles, Jim's charisma and jovial nature made him a beloved figure in every room he entered.
Jim graduated from Polytechnic High School in 1951 and went on to earn a Bachelor of Architecture from Texas A&M University in 1959, a place that held a special place in his heart throughout his life. His military career was marked by distinguished service in the U.S. Army from March 27, 1953, to February 13, 1969, where he reached the rank of Captain in the Armor Division. He was deeply involved in various military courses and later became a life member of the Military Officers Association of America and the Army Aviation Association of America.
Professionally, Jim was a respected architect, licensed by the Texas Board of Architectural Examiners in 1966. His leadership roles included serving as the President of the American Institute of Architects, Fort Worth Chapter, and the Texas A&M Club. His contributions to architecture and community were recognized with numerous accolades, including a Citation for Outstanding Service.
Jim's personal life was filled with adventure and passion for flying and soaring, hobbies that took him to skies and destinations across the country, often accompanied by his longtime companion Francis Berryhill. He was an active member of the North Texas Soaring Society and relished his travels in New Mexico.
A devout member of Christ the King Anglican Church, Jim's faith played a significant role in his life. His final services will be held at the church on Tuesday, January 21, 2025 at 2 p.m., followed by interment at DFW National Cemetery on Wednesday, January 22, 2025 at 9 a.m.
Jim is survived by his son Scott Vickery, daughter-in-law Carkye Vickery, grandson Angus Vickery, and nieces and nephews James Vickery, Erik Stoker, and Nancy Stamant. He was preceded in death by his brothers Al Vickery and David Stoker.
Jim Vickery's life was a testament to his love for people, his community, and his country. His legacy of warmth, dedication, and service will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.
