Roll Call Tribute

Brenda Allen Lorick 

April 20, 1945 - December 9, 2024 

Brenda Louise Evans was born on April 20, 1945. Brenda was the second of two children born to the late Henry Pettigrew Evans and Rosetta Dixon Evans. Her sister, Henrietta, was the oldest.

Brenda was born in Baltimore City, MD and graduated from Forest Park Senior High School in 1963, starting a lifelong journey of learning. She graduated from Morgan State University in June 1967 obtaining a Master of Education degree from Howard University in 1975. Moving to New Mexico for a time, she obtained a Master of Arts degree from Saint Johns College in 1980. Relocating to Texas, she graduated from Texas A&M University with an Ed.D in 1990. Living in several states, Brenda enjoyed a long and varied career in education, ranging from her beginning as a substitute elementary school teacher all the way to becoming the head of several college counseling departments.

Brenda loved to travel. The earliest passport in her files reflects a trip to Jamaica in 1984. The last passport in her files was for her trip to Egypt in 2022. In between, she travelled to the following countries: Nigeria, Australia, Dubai, England, Thailand, Scotland, Vietnam, France, Ghana, Mexico, and China. There were many other such trips. One of her favorite trips included a train excursion on the famed Orient Express.

Always willing to try new things, Brenda’s diverse interests included quilting, needlepoint, acting, collecting art and an enduring interest in gospel music. An advocate, mentor, and counselor, Brenda assisted many people with their life goals and education. Those who knew her often referred to her as their “cheerleader”.

Brenda belonged to several organizations alongside Morgan State University over the years, while also being a dedicated member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. She looked forward to outings with her lifelong friends in the Apron Strings. Brenda was a member of several educational, creative arts, and community organizations that promoted the activities she enjoyed.

Preceding her in death, were her parents and beloved sister, Henrietta E. Harcum. Brenda leaves to cherish her memory two sons, David Malcolm Allen and Marcus G. Lorick, a daughter-in-law, Dionne Allen, two grandchildren, Catherine Allen and David Miles Allen, niece Tanya Harcum, and nephews Raymond T. Harcum, and Christian Allen along with a whole host of great grandchildren, great nieces, nephews, loving family members and friends.
