Granger Wheaton Smith, IV
August 26, 1961 - January 14, 2025
Granger Wheaton Smith, IV, 63, a resident of Duluth, MN, cast off his earthly chains to join the Lord on January 14, 2025, after fighting the good fight.
Born in El Paso, Texas to Granger Wheaton Smith, III and Elizabeth Spiegelmire Smith, he pursued knowledge fervently while being a loyal son and friend. He was often accused of being old-fashioned, but he took that as a compliment.
An avid reader, he knew a little bit about everything and was delighted to talk to anyone on just about any subject. He especially enjoyed history, mathematics, statistics, and engineering. In his youth, he was an Eagle Scout with the Boy Scouts of America, and later attended Texas A&M University, where he was a proud member of the Corps of Cadets. He ultimately became a master electrician and served the Duluth area.
He loved helping others and singing karaoke. Even though he moved to Duluth, he never forgot his Texas roots and was Texan to his core. He was passionate about self-sufficiency, medical rights, and was a vocal supporter of front-line medical workers, namely nurses, in honor of his mother and grandmother.
He was preceded in death by his father, brother John, and mother.
He is survived by his daughter, Leara H. Thorp and her husband Jason; two grandchildren; brother Blaine; and life-long friends Jonathan Lindquist and Bruce Heaslip. He will be greatly missed and remembered with love and joy.
A Memorial Service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Boy Scouts of America, Texas Aggie Corps of Cadets Association, or your local plasma donation center.
The Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home, 1209 E 5th Street in Superior, is assisting the family with arrangements. To leave a condolence or sign the guestbook visit www.lenroot-maetzold.com.
