October 30, 1924 - January 22, 2025
Arthur McCardle, age 100, a longtime resident of Glendale and Greenhills, Ohio, passed away peacefully on January 22, 2025.
Arthur was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur Greene and Corrine Brown McCardle of Richton, Mississippi; his siblings, Loyce, Benjamin, Edsel, and Thomas; and his first wife, Ruth Toland. He is survived by his beloved wife of 37 years, Carol Fricke (née Schmidt); one brother, Robert of Richton, Mississippi; his children, Tom (Liz) of Fairfield Twp., Ohio; John (Sheri) of Springfield Twp., Ohio; Martha (Roger) Foster of Beavercreek , Ohio; stepchildren Jon Fricke (Laura) of Blue Ash and Kathy McCulley (Travis) of Greenhills; a beloved niece, Margo Hodge of Laurel, Mississippi; as well as many devoted grandchildren and great-grandchildren who brought him immense joy.
Born in 1924 in Richton, Mississippi, Arthur graduated high school at the age of 16. He earned his degree from Mississippi State College in 1943 and later received a master's degree in engineering from Texas A&M University in 1952. During World War II, he served as a corporal in the Army Air Corps occupation forces on Iwo Jima, where he worked as a surveyor. In 1952, he married Quinnie Ruth Toland, with whom he raised three children before her passing in February 1984. In May 1987, Arthur married Carol Fricke, sharing 37 years of love and companionship.
Arthur dedicated 42 years to General Electric Aircraft Engines as a manager. Beginning his career there in 1952 and retiring in Dec. 1993, he was admired for his work ethic and commitment. In retirement, Arthur enjoyed golfing, traveling with Carol, gardening, and spending cherished time with family. He also volunteered by rebuilding equipment for the blind at General Electric. He and Carol were longtime members of the Greenhills Community Church, Presbyterian.
His legacy of kindness and dedication will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.
Visitation with lunch will be held at Spring Grove Funeral Home on Princeton Pike in Glendale, Ohio, on Friday, January 31, 2025 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., with a service following at 1:00 p.m. Military burial will take place immediately afterward at Oak Hill Cemetery in Glendale.
