Harry E. Newman

March 11, 1928 - January 27, 2024

On January 27, 2024, Harry Newman, a business owner, peacefully passed away at the age of 95 at home with family. Born on March 11, 1928, in San Antonio, Texas he led a vibrant and fulfilling life in his hometown.

During his youth, Harry had a passion for sports, particularly baseball. He attended Allen Academy and Texas A&M University, where he was a member of the Corps of Cadets. Shortly thereafter he joined Professional Pharmacal Inc., a company founded by his father in 1943. The company specialized in manufacturing prescription eye, ear, and nose medicine at their Josephine Street facility. In 1969, their flagship eyedrop product was chosen as the official eyedrops for Apollo 11, the historic spaceflight that landed humans on the moon. Following the sale of Professional Pharmacal in 1973, Harry and his brother Art ventured into various real estate projects and investments through the securities markets.

Beyond his professional achievements, Harry was known for his sociable nature, rarely encountering a stranger as he enjoyed people and had a natural inclination for conversation. During his lifetime he witnessed and embraced tremendous technical advances, but he particularly loved using the computer to surf for news and information as well as using FaceTime to stay in touch with his kids. He was knowledgeable and enjoyed discussing current events, breaking news, investments, and the markets.

Harry served his country as a veteran during the Korean War. He actively participated in clubs and charities over the years, including Alamo Kiwanis, Oak Hills Country Club, Town Club, and fundraising for Modern Pentathlon serving as the Chairman for Liaison Committee. Harry was a long-time member of Christ Episcopal Church for over 60 years.

Harry and his wife Jan played pivotal roles in shaping their children's lives, fostering their involvement in diverse sports and activities, such as swimming, show jumping, fencing, shooting, track & field, and football. These experiences imparted valuable life lessons to their children. Summers, holidays, and special occasions were frequently cherished in Port Aransas, creating lasting memories with their children and grandchildren.

Harry was preceded in death by his wife Jan, parents Katherine and Emanuel Newman, and brother Art. Harry is survived by his three children and their families: John Tracy Newman (Sallie) of San Antonio, Nancy Newman Parker (David) of Ft. Worth, and Christopher Newman (Arisa) of Los Angeles. His legacy also lives on through his five grandchildren, John (Jack) Tracy Newman Jr. of Dallas, and Julia Newman Butler (Cody) of Dallas, John Barron Parker (Sara) of Fort Worth, Christopher Baker Parker of Fort Worth, and David Benjamin (Ben) Parker of Fort Worth and two great-granddaughters, Blakely Parker, and Francie Parker of Fort Worth.

A small family memorial service will be held to honor Harry's life.
