Gregory Reid Simmons 

November 29, 1953 - January 15, 2024 

Gregory Simmons, 70, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, January 15, 2024. He was known for being kind, gentle, and thoughtful, and for being a friend to everyone he met. He is the son of the late Vernon and Evelyn Simmons.

Greg was an Eagle Scout and served Scouting in many capacities as an adult. He was also a proud alumnus of the Dobyns-Bennett High School and University of Tennessee Pride of the Southland Bands. He was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church in Johnson City, where he served as a Trustee for many years. Greg had many interests, and he particularly enjoyed traveling and learning new things. He has friends from all over and loved every one of them.

Greg is survived by his wife, Rhonda Simmons; daughter, Elizabeth Simmons; brother and sister-in-law, Phil and Nancy Simmons; sister and brother-in-law, Sharon and Vern Lester; nephews, Grant Simmons and wife Tracy and Mitchell Simmons and wife Marcie; and his many friends.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 21, 2024 from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church of Johnson City, TN. A funeral service will follow with Rev. Jodie Ihfe officiating. A graveside will follow at Rock Springs Methodist Church Cemetery.
