Charles Edward Holcomb, Maj. USMC (Ret)

Charles Edward Holcomb, 96, of Dumfries, Virginia, passed away on October 1, 2024.
Charles was born in Benbrook, Texas to John Monro Holcomb and Eula Mae O'Kelly on September 16, 1928.
He was the oldest of six children. He attended Texas A & M University for two years and left to join the USMC. He was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars and was awarded several medals including the Purple Heart, National Defense Service Medal and the Navy Commendation Medal. He also received the Combat Action Ribbon and the Pistol Expert Qualification Badge. After retiring from the Marines as a major, he started a new career as a branch manager for First Virginia bank.
He met his wife, Raymonde Yvette Marlaud in Rabat, Morocco and they married on August 12, 1955. They had been married for almost 65 years at the time of Ray's passing on July 15, 2020. Charles loved traveling and visited several countries. He and Ray traveled throughout the continental U.S. and saw several parts of Canada. He was an avid reader, especially of westerns, enjoyed baking and really loved spending time with his family and sharing wonderful stories of his past.
He leaves behind his beloved daughters, Mary Board, Jackie Jerome and Terrie Kreiner and their husbands Terry, Steve and Mike. Also left behind are his cherished six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A family service will be held at the Semper Fidelis Memorial Chapel in Quantico, Virginia on November 4, 2024. Following the service, he will be buried with honors at Quantico National Cemetery.
