Roll Call Tribute

Rodney "Rod" Hébert '61 March 11, 2025 3:38 PM updated: March 11, 2025 3:46 PM

Rodney Walton Hébert

December 21, 1938 – February 2, 2025

Mothers are the glue to a family, but the father is the foundation, strong and true. Quiet, dependable, steadfast, faithful and true would describe our dad.

He was born to Lois and James Hebert in Beaumont, Texas. He graduated St. Anthony High School and attended Texas A&M College (now University) where he graduated in 1961 with BS in Mechanical Engineering. He was in the Corps of Cadets while attending Texas A&M where he served as Chaplain and was a member of the elite Ross Volunteers.

Upon fulfilling his Air Force obligation achieving the rank of Captain, Dad began his work as a Sales Engineer (and eventually manager) for Westinghouse where he worked in domestic and international sales. His work had him moving a few times with his growing family before settling in Florida where he eventually retired. His work also gave him the adventures of traveling the country and all over the world. The family still thinks working for Westinghouse was a cover. Dad loved sailing. Learned it first in Nebraska and graduated to 34’ boat docked in Pensacola. He enjoyed his Harley and had grand adventures biking with a crew out west or to bike week in Daytona, always moving and traveling when he could, either on the boat or his bike. Dad’s lifelong charm was probably what made him many friends and a success in his career. There isn’t a person who did not like him and his sense of humor. Mom said she married him because he made her laugh.

Predeceased by wife, Judy Hebert, of 56 years and great grandchild Serenity Tobias. Survived by sister Vonda Sharron (Doug) San Antonio, Texas, children Patricia Hebert Taurasi (David) Titusville FL, Cathy Hebert Bridge (Jody) Carlisle Pa, Wade Hebert (Vikki) Jacksonville FL, and Steve Hebert Orlando Fl, Grandfather to 17 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren and beloved Uncle and cousin to many.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Harbor Chase and Community Hospice for their caring, kindness and understanding.
