George R. "Riley" Froh
June 22, 1938 - February 8, 2025
George Riley Froh, 86, of Luling, Texas passed away February 8, 2025. Born June 22, 1938 in Luling, Texas the only child of George Ira Froh & Inez King Froh. Riley graduated from Luling High School in 1956, and graduated Southwest Texas State Teachers College with a teacher’s certificate in 1962. On August 18, 1962 he married Mary Pearl Binz in San Antonio. He earned his Master of Science degree in 1968 and received his PHD in history from Texas A&M University in 1980. He taught English in the public schools in Navarro I.S.D. and Gonzales I.S.D. He then became an instructor of Texas and American History and British Literature at San Jacinto College for 26 years.
He published two non-fiction books, Wildcatter Extraordinary” and “Edgar B Davis and Sequences in Business Capitalism”. His short stories have appeared in Louis L’Amour Western Magazine, Concho River Review, Three Western Writer’s of America anthologies, and One Berkley Anthology. He also wrote several non-fiction articles and book reviews for scholarly journals. He retired to his hometown where he wrote weekly newspaper articles entitled “To and Froh” for the Luling Newsboy and Signal” until prevented by ill-health.
He is preceded in death by his parents, George Ira Froh & Inez King Froh. Son, William Travis Froh, and 1 sister, Janelle Slater.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Pearl Binz Froh of Luling, Tx. Son Noble King Froh of Harwood, TX, 4 Grandchildren, Jacob Griffin Froh, Emma Ray Froh, Cooper King Froh & Tyler Gunn Froh.
Pallbearers are Noble Froh, Jacob Froh, Bob Cash, Graham Ward, and Charlie Eastburn. Honary Pallbearers are, Emma Froh and Tyler Froh.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday February 15, 2025 at the Central Baptist Church with Rev. Roger Knox officiating.
