Ercole Michael "Erc" Barone
June 21, 1938 - January 27, 2025
Ercole Michael Barone, known affectionately as "Erc" by his friends and loved ones, passed away peacefully on January 27, 2025 at his home in Fairfax, Virginia.
Born on June 21, 1938 in Brooklyn, New York, Erc was a man of exceptional character whose faith-filled and loving nature touched the hearts of everyone he encountered.
Erc's early life in Brooklyn laid the foundation for his strong work ethic and commitment to service. His dedication to his country was evident when he chose to serve in the U.S. Army after graduating from the prestigious U.S. Military Academy at West Point. He later furthered his education earning a Master's of Engineering from Texas A&M University. His professional life was marked by his role as a civil engineer and his veteran status, both of which he carried with immense pride.
Family was the cornerstone of Erc's life. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Viola “Vi” Barone, with whom he deeply loved and was married to for 64 years. His daughters, Anne Perez and Caroline Thompson, were his pride and joy, along with his sons-in-law, the late Robert Perez and Aaron Thompson. Erc was a cherished grandfather to Christine Crippen (and husband Kevin), the late R. Steven Perez, Madeline Tutone (and husband TJ), Katherine Thompson, Michael Thompson, Grace Perez, and Carrieanne Thompson. Recently becoming a great-grandfather to Thomas Joseph "Tommy" Tutone Jr. brought him great joy.
Erc's selfless nature extended beyond his family. He was an active and devoted member of St. Mary of Sorrows Catholic Church, where he lived out his faith in community and prayer. His involvement with the Knights of Columbus, Council 8600, spanned over 60 years, including esteemed roles as Past Grand Knight and Former District Deputy. His unwavering commitment to his faith and community was a testament to his character. Those who knew Erc will remember him as a man whose life was a living example of the values he held dear. His faith-filled approach to life's challenges, his loving heart that knew no bounds, and his selfless acts of kindness defined who he was.
Erc's memory will be held in the highest regard by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His passing leaves a void in the hearts of his family, friends, and all the lives he touched. Yet, the memories of his steadfast love, guidance, and the wisdom he imparted will forever be cherished.
