Don Alan Zabcik 

May 28, 1956 - February 25, 2025 

Don Alan Zabcik, a dedicated engineer, world traveler, and loving father and grandfather, passed away on February 25, 2025 at the age of 68.

He was preceded in death by his father, Johnny Zabcik (2010), his mother, Dorothy Bedrich Zabcik (2014), and his son, Don Alan Zabcik (2024). He is survived by his children, Bethany LeBoeuf and Alisa Zabcik; his grandson, Eugene LeBoeuf; and his siblings, David Zabcik and Jan Zabcik.

Don Alan Zabcik was born on May 28, 1956 in Temple, Texas. A proud graduate of Temple High School (Class of 1974), he earned a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering from Texas A&M University in 1978, followed by a master’s degree in human factors engineering in 1980.

His professional career spanned decades in the telecommunications industry, where he played a key role in building the cellular communications industry from the ground up. Starting in 1981, his work took him across four continents, contributing to network infrastructure in the United States, Chile, Brazil, Argentina, Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador, Colombia, Venezuela, Panama, Nicaragua, Belize, Costa Rica, Haiti, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Barbados, Nigeria, France, England, and beyond. His expertise and leadership left a lasting impact on companies such as Bell Laboratory, Northern Telecomm, US West (PacBell), Macaw Communication, Cellular One, CGI, Motorola, Seneca Communications, and Mastec Communications.

He was married to Meg Chamlee Pitrucha from 1980 to 2003 and to Anna Steele from 2004 to 2016.

A service to honor his life will be held on Saturday March 8, 2025 at 2:30pm at Ocker Brethren Church. Burial will follow at Ocker Brethren Church Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 5-7pm Friday March 7, 2025 at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Roy Vajdak, Bob Zabcik, Fred Husak, Ray Griggs, Mark Olsen, and Craig Pitrucha. Honorary pallbearers include David Zabcik, Don Frei, Mark Baletka, and Kent Laza.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Diabetes Association or the Texas A&M Association of Former Students in his memory.

Don will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and colleagues around the world.
