Robert William "Bob" Hughes

Robert (Bob) William Hughes died on Sunday, March 30, 2025 surrounded by his loving family. He was preceded in death by his parents, W. Frank and Topaz Hughes and his daughter, Mary Katherine. He was born on October 24, 1939 in Amarillo, TX and grew up in Bryan, TX as a member of First Baptist Church. He graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School in Bryan and furthered his education at Schreiner Institute in 1959 and Texas Agricultural and Mechanical College earning a Bachelor’s degree in 1961 and a Master’s degree in 1965 in electrical engineering. He was a member of the Eta Kappa Nu and Tau Beta Pi, honor societies. He was a life member of Texas A&M Association of Former Students, life member of the NRA, member of the Fiero Club, and a century member of Sam Houston Area Council of Boy Scouts. He had a wealth of knowledge about guns and cars.
Bob married the love of his life, Mary Kiening, in 1967, and joined the Methodist Church. They had 4 children. Not only did Bob have a successful career as an electrical engineer at Exxon Production Research for 31 years, he was very involved in his church, St. John’s Presbyterian in Houston, TX, which he joined in 1976. He really enjoyed spending time at the country property in Trinity, TX.
He is survived by his wife, Mary, his 2 sons, William and Jonathan, his daughter, Sarah, his daughter-in-law, Rebecca, his son-in-law, Adam, his grandchildren, Mina, Toren, Naomi, and Liam, his siblings, Don, Patsy (Ed) Nefflen, and John (Cynthia), his brother-in-law, Jim Kiening, and a host of nephews and nieces. A memorial service will be held at St. John’s Presbyterian, 5020 W. Bellfort, Houston, TX on Saturday, April 12, 2025 at 1:00pm with reception to follow.
