April 26, 1936 - January 11, 2025 

James Roland Moore '58 was born to Howard and Groverene Moore on April 26, 1936 in his grandmother’s house in Venus, TX. He is preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and his first wife Dorothy Martin Moore. He is survived by his present wife, Janell Moore; daughter, Pennie Moore Toon '87 and son-in-law, Stephen Toon '87; step-daughter, Kendra Rochelle; step-son, Brandon Fitzgerald, and step-daughter, Robyn Sligar and son-in-law, Chase Sligar. Jim also is survived by nine grandchildren: Patrick Stephen Toon '12 and wife, Lauren, John Moore Toon '16, Colin Joseph Toon '20 and his wife, Katherine '20, Elanor Helen Toon '24, Caleb Ray Swan, Michael Payton Rochelle, MaKenzi Payge Rochelle, Harlow Grayce Sligar, Locklyn Rayne Sligar and three great-grandchildren: Luke Steele Huddleston, Levi James Toon and a baby boy due in February. Jim is also survived by one sister, Deanna Blankenship and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Jim graduated from Venus High School in 1954 as the Valedictorian of his class. He always shared that but didn’t mention that there were only 8 people in his class. He went on to be the loudest and proudest member of the Fightin’ Texas Aggie class of 1958. He was in the B Engineers in the Corps of Cadets. After graduating with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, he was commissioned into the United States Army, where he served proudly.

Jim married Dorothy Martin on June 17, 1960. They were married until her death in 1996.

Jim was involved in the oil and gas industry for most of his professional career. He worked for various entities of ENSERCH Corporation and was also very active in the Natural Gas Vehicles Association. He served on many Boards of Directors as well as serving as the Mayor of the town of Venus.

Jim became a Christ follower in his mid-forties and was a devout member of First Baptist in Venus, Calvary Baptist in DeSoto, First Baptist Oak Cliff, First Family Church and the past 16 years, he was a member of Northplace Church in Sachse. He served on the Prayer/Altar Team and was a Small Group Leader doing homeless outreach ministry. He was also a member of the Prime Timers group. He lived a Godly life who showed compassion and touched so many lives. Even in his last few weeks, as his health declined, he was determined to be in church.

Jim married Janell Jane Rosenthal formerly Fitzgerald on October 16, 1999. They were married until his death. Together they built a blended family with their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He loved to play golf and spent many happy hours on the course. He was a member of Dallas Athletic Club for many years. He was also an avid exercise enthusiast, running or in later years, walking every day.

Jim was very secure in his faith and we look forward to seeing him again in Heaven.
