John Patrick McGraw
May 8, 1940 - February 21, 2025
John Patrick McGraw passed away peacefully on February 21, 2025, in Allen, Texas. He was born on May 8, 1940, in Denver, Colorado, the oldest of three brothers to Dr. John P. McGraw and Miriam (Harrison) McGraw. He never lost his passion for sailing on Galveston Bay near his home in Houston and for spending summers working on his grandmother’s guest ranch outside of Estes Park, Colorado.
John grew up in Houston, Texas, graduating from St. Thomas High School in 1958. He attended Georgetown University and the University of St. Thomas in Houston where he met Annie Marie Geary, whom he married on August 6, 1965. After receiving a master’s degree in computer science from Texas A&M University, John spent most of his career with Unisys Corporation before developing his interest in cyber security with Electronic Data Systems in Plano, Texas in the late 1990s.
John and Annie settled in Plano, Texas in 1976 and filled their 59 years of marriage with unwavering devotion to each other and for their three children. John was never idle and pursued many hobbies during his life, including banjo-playing, cycling, Irish music, and advanced learning.
John never met a stranger. He loved getting to know people and their stories; and he never passed up a stranger in need. He always gave generously of his time, volunteering at St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church in Plano, Texas with the Boy Scouts and the Love Truck which gathered donations for needier parishes. John and Annie mentored young couples through Engaged Encounter, and they taught high school CCD classes. In his retirement, he volunteered with Our Lady of Angels Catholic Church in Allen, Texas, the Perot Science Museum in Dallas and the Plano Fire and Police Departments after attending their volunteer citizen academies.
He imparted upon his children and grandchildren his love of his faith, family, and learning. He is survived by his wife Annie; his three children, Mary McGraw of McKinney, Texas, Patricia Stockrahm and her husband Michael of South Bend, Indiana, and Bill McGraw and his wife Kathy of Hoboken, New Jersey; and six grandchildren, Bridget, Peter and Philip Stockrahm; and Liam, Kathleen and Annie McGraw; brothers Michael McGraw and his wife Sheryl and Patrick McGraw; his sister-in-law Elizabeth Dowdle.
