Stephen E. "Steve" Underwood, Sr.

May 31, 1958 - March 22, 2025

Stephen E. Underwood, Sr., beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and son, passed away peacefully on March 22, 2025, after a courageous battle with a brain tumor. He was surrounded by the love of his family as he was called home to be with the Lord.

Steve was born on May 31, 1958, in Norfolk, Virginia. He loved and cherished his childhood memories of Bluefield, West Virginia, and made annual treks throughout his life to reconnect with his family roots there—a place that always special in his heart. After his family relocated to Dallas, Texas, Steve made the decision to attend Texas A&M University, where he proudly earned his degree in Mechanical Engineering. He remained a proud and loyal Aggie throughout his life.

He went on to build a life defined by hard work, integrity, and deep love for his family. He was a man of quiet strength, deep faith, and unwavering devotion.

Those who knew Steve will remember his passion for gardening—especially his prized tomatoes—and his insatiable curiosity for history, particularly the Civil War. He was a dedicated coin collector, a fan of Peanuts cartoons, and someone who found joy in long, scenic drives just to take in the world around him.

Steve was also the biggest cheerleader for his children and grandchildren. Whether it was horseback riding, karate matches, soccer games, or competitive swimming, he was always on the sidelines or in the stands, beaming with pride and offering his full support.

He is survived by his loving wife, Margot Underwood; his daughter, Lauren Underwood; his son, Stephen Underwood, Jr.; and his stepdaughter, Dolka Perez. He was a proud and devoted grandfather to Victoria, Andersen, and Sophia Perez. He also leaves behind his cherished mother, Norma Underwood; his sister, Carol Tatman; his brother, Michael Underwood; and former spouse, Kilena Underwood. Steve was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Underwood, whose memory he carried with him always.

A funeral service to celebrate Stephen’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 27, 2025, at Flanigan Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Broadlawn Memorial Gardens in Buford, GA. Visitation will take place from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 26.

Though he is no longer with us in body, Steve’s spirit will live on through the love he gave so freely, the wisdom he shared so generously, and the memories made that will be cherished forever.

"Well done, good and faithful servant." – Matthew 25:23
